DISPENSARY ATM GUIDES
Notes for dispensary operators
Placement, cash, equipment, and the late 2026 licensing picture for New Jersey, Maryland, New York, and Maine. Written for owners and operators.
New Jersey
- North Jersey dispensaries need an ATM plan that fits the block
North Jersey is dense, and the dispensary streets do not match. A Jersey City corner, a Newark avenue, and a Union Township lot on Route 22 are three different machines-in-a-room problems.
- Central Jersey dispensary ATMs follow the town, not the nickname
Central Jersey is a nickname, not a county. A dispensary in Red Bank, Trenton, New Brunswick, or Somerville needs its own placement story.
- South Jersey dispensary placement is a town-by-town job
Camden County had the largest uncertified share of June 2026 statewide sales on the CRC slides, at 10.16%. That does not make every South Jersey dispensary the same kind of store.
- A Shore dispensary ATM has to work in January too
Atlantic City, Cape May, and the Ocean County mainland do not share a calendar. If your dispensary lives on summer foot traffic, say so. If it lives on year-round local shopping, say that instead.
- Northwest Jersey dispensaries are spread out on purpose
Morristown, Newton, Hackettstown, and Phillipsburg are real centers with real drives between them. An ATM plan that treats the northwest as one market will miss the store.
Maryland
- An ATM for a Maryland dispensary starts with the MCA town
Maryland is inside the published full-service region. That is not a yes for your store. The useful first question is which town the Maryland Cannabis Administration puts on the license.
- Maryland dispensary streets are not one market
A Federal Hill door, a Rockville Pike lot, a Salisbury highway, and a Hagerstown valley store do not share a floor plan. Start with the county, then the town.
- Maryland's sales total is not your cash drawer
A statewide sales figure tells you the market is real. It does not tell you how many customers at your counter will want cash.
New York
- An ATM for a New York dispensary follows the town
New York is inside the full-service region. Town pages follow the city on the OCM public list.
- Adult-use, CAURD, ROD, and medical are not the same list
If you operate in New York, the ATM question comes after the license question. These pages only sort rows the way OCM published them.
- New York's sales milestone is not a cash forecast
The state has published big retail totals. Your drawer is still a local question.
- A New York City dispensary ATM has to fit the block
Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island are five different retail maps. Plan the ATM for the block, not for the whole city.
- Downstate dispensaries are still town by town
Nassau and Suffolk are not the city. Westchester and the river counties are not Long Island. Bring the municipality.
- Upstate dispensary ATMs cover a lot of road
Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany are real centers with real miles between them. A North Country store is another drive.
Maine
- A Maine dispensary can ask about owning the ATM
Maine is not in the published full-service region. That region is New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, D.C. Purchase inquiries are still welcome.
- In Maine, opt-in and a license are two different facts
A town can allow adult-use retail and still have no store. A store license is the row that belongs on a town page.
- Southern Maine dispensaries cluster, and they are still separate towns
Portland, South Portland, Biddeford, and Saco show up often on the OCP store file. They are not one floor plan.
- Central and northern Maine dispensaries are a long service drive apart
Lewiston and Auburn share a river and not a government. Bangor, Augusta, and Caribou are farther apart than a single cash plan can pretend.
Market
- New Jersey dispensary sales are large. Cash planning is still local.
Certified CRC totals say how much legal cannabis sold. They do not say what share of those sales was cash. A dispensary owner still has to plan for customers who need cash before they reach the counter.
- Schedule III and SAFE Banking did not finish the cash question
Dispensary owners ask whether federal changes in 2026 removed the reason to think about cash. The published rules are narrower than that hope. This page is not legal advice.
- Where the New Jersey dispensary names come from
The names on the county and town pages come from the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission's public permit list, updated October 2026. They are there so you can see the licensed market around your store.
Placement
- An ATM for a New Jersey dispensary starts with your store
Shoppers search for an ATM near a dispensary because a lot of cannabis purchases are still planned in cash. If you run the dispensary, the useful question is different. Which machine, who fills it, and who fixes it?
Programs
- Full-service placement or ownership: choose the job you want to keep
The machine is the visible part. The decision is who buys it, who fills it with cash, who watches it, and who keeps the surcharge.
Equipment
- Pick the dispensary ATM format from the room, not the photo
A floor-standing ATM gives customers a clear place to stand. A wall-mounted ATM, such as the Genmega Onyx-W shown on this site, can leave more of the floor open. Neither photo is a measurement of your store.
